AI Experimentation
I recently started experimenting with different vibe coding tools, to test out different AI capabilities while building fun interactive experiences. Along the way, I am looking to document any findings I come across on each of the tools, to report on what I deem as a successful user experience - and which tools could use a bit more work. I am no expert in this space, but simply having fun and learning as I go.
Mole Racer Game
Play the game: 🐭 Mole Racer
Tools Used: Claude.ai
Project Overview: A simple racing game where the user needs to avoid obstacles or collect rewards to make it to the next level. Points are accumulated at each level, and the game continues until the user fails.
Pros: Claude understood how to build a game pretty easily. Things like speed and levels were easy to prompt, making the interactivity aspect fun to focus on.
Cons: The UI portion of the game was very difficult to control. I tried giving it a simple inspiration image to base the graphics off of, and it horribly misinterpreted the intention. It was also difficult to revert changes after a prompt had been rendered.
Storytime
Play the Game: 📖 Storytime
Tools Used: Figma Make
Project Overview: An interactive story builder, that allows the user to select from a few “theme” prompts - which then generates the basis of a simple story. The user can then continue to prompt selections, giving it a ‘choose your own adventure’ type of feel to the game. Once the user has completed their story, they can choose to ‘save’ their game by giving it a title and exporting it in a PDF ready preview mode.
Pros: Figma Make was great at understanding the delightful portion of what it takes to build a UI experience. From decent animation capabilities, to a much better UI experience - it was able to take a very basic inspiration image and draw fonts and colors directly from a jpeg.
Cons: The story building aspect within the game felt a bit lackluster. The more I tried to prompt, the worse the stories got, which is the main feature of the game.
